Wasnt Like Senator

Updike was in his twenties and thirties when most of his seventeen stories about the maples were being written, but his expert and unpatronizing account of a suburban marriagehusband and wife, neighbors and kids, meals and affairs and politics and anxietyalso carried this double view. It wasnt like the senator got us the gig at all, it was more like he had a personal connection to us because he heard us and because he was comfortable with us he forwarded our information. The good larry fitzgerald is awake and kurt warner is throwing darts. But don t look for them to be there next year. He is not mawkish or insistently gloomy.
